12 Albert Rd, Mexborough, died on July 28 of shock and wounds received in action in France.

The woman’s consists of shrapnel in the head and forearm, and Sapper Mawson, will never regain consciousness after being struck, died in hospital.

He was the elder of two soldier sons of Mr JT Mawson, with well-known in local musical circles, and was formerly choirmaster at St George’s church, Mexborough.

Sapper Mawson was 20 years of age, and before enlistment, in March 1915, was a turner in the fitting shops at Denaby Main. In November 1915 he was drafted to the Dardanelles, and from there to Egypt, being finally transferred to France.

He was killed three weeks after returning to France on leave.

His younger brother, Private Leonard Wilfred Mawson is training in England.
