Sgt H Lockwood
(Royal Field Artillery)
Mr and Mrs Hough Hophni Lockwood, 3 Wilson Street, Mexborough, have been having conflicting news of their son, Sgt Hophni Lockwood, the Doncaster mounted policeman, who some months ago one his DCM in France by carrying his officer, Maj Ward, who had been wounded, into safety under fire.
Subsequently Sgt Lockwood was gassed and was brought to Newcastle on Tyne. He recovered, and went to Salonika, and during the last week or so it was freely rumoured in Doncaster, where his wife resides, that he had been killed.
As a matter of fact he has had a fall from his horse, and a consequent visit to hospital, but he is out, and about again, and has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major.
