Pte. G. D. Jones – Killed in Italy

Here is a photograph of Private George Douglas Jones, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Jones of the Albion Hotel, Mexborough who, as reported in our last issue was killed in action in Italy on September 19th.

Pte. Jones leaves a widow and a young son.

He was on the L.N.E.R. clerical staff at Mexborough before joining up 4 ½ years ago.  He had been on active service abroad for the last 2 ½ years and had seen hard campaigning in North Africa before crossing over into Italy with the Eighth Army.

A memorial service is to be held at Mexborough Parish Church on Sunday morning.
