The first intimation that their son, Gnr. F. R. Jackson, who was posted missng in the Middle East on Jan. 28th, was safe, was received by Mr. and Mrs. P. Jackson, 20, Helena Street, Mexboro’ In a letter they received from Mr. E. Keyworth, of Woodseats. Sheffield, who informed them that while listening in to the Vatican radio the previous day he had heard their son’s name announced in a list of British prisoners of war.
The first letter from Gnr. Jackson since he was taken prisoner reached his parents on Tuesday saying that he was in good health, was getting decent food (though the quantity was not large), and asking them not to worry about his welfare. He intimated that there was a shortage of jam, cigarettes, and biscuits and asked if some could be sent through the Red Cross.
