(Border Regiment)

Private R.R. Hughes, 50 Dolclffe Road, has received gunshot wounds in the face, entailing the loss of his right eye. He is in a hospital in France, and expects to be moved to England.

Enlisting in August 1914, he has been through the Dardanelles campaign, Egypt and also in France. Many narrow escapes he has had, but until July 4th 1916 he escaped injury.

Writing home to his mother, he mentions the fact that he has lost his right eye, and has received severe gunshot wound in the face. He still remains in hospital at the base, and is receiving kind attention at the hands of the staff of the first Canadian Gen Hospital.

He is a son of the late Mr R.P. Hughes, who died some months ago, and who was a well-known member of the Wesleyan body.
