Killed In Action
Mrs. Flinders, of 55, Main Street, Mexborough, has received official notification that her husband, Pte. Herbert Flinders (29), was killed in action in Burma on May 13th.
He had been abroad for two years. Before joining up three years ago he worked underground at Cadeby Main Colliery. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. Flinders of Mexborough and his brother Tpr. Jack Flinders, is also in the Forces.
The famous jockey, Freddy Fox, in 1935, presented Pte. Flinders with a cigarette lighter when he found and returned the jockey’s favourite whip which he lost during a race at Doncaster.
Pte. Flinders leaves two children.
