In Italian Hands
Signalman George Dewsbury (24), Royal Corps of Signals, son of Mrs. Dewsbury, 26, New Street, Mexborough, has been reported prisoner of warin Italian hands. He had previously been reported missing from July 11th. 1942.
Sig. Dewsbury joined the Forces when he was 19, and has served in Iraq and India. Since he has been reported a prisoner Mrs. Dewsbury has received a letter from him in which he said he was being treated fairly well. Sig. Dewsbury is an old pupil of Doncaster Road School, and was formerly employed by Mexborough Amalgamated Brick Company.
Mrs. Dewsbury has two other sons in the Forces, and one daughter, Mary Eyre (19), working on munitions.
The sons are Gnr. John Henry Eyre (22), who is in the Middle East, and Sgt. Wm. Dewsbury, who i9 married and is serving in England. At the outbreak of war the latter was on reserve after doing seven years’ service in the Army.
Another son, William Alfred Dewsbury, was discharged from the Forces over 12 months ago, after serving abroad. At the outbreak of war he also was a reservist, having done seven years’ service in tho Regular Army
