Soldier – Deakin, Charles – Stalag 88

A Group of South Yorkshire lads now prisoners of war in Germany at Stalag 88. This picture was sent to his wife by Sergt.-Major J. Leader (In centre with forage cap), of Wath Drill Hall. Sergt.-MaJor Leader served in France and was taken prisoner at Dunkirk. He saw service abroad In the last war.

In his letter he tells his wife that he is receiving letters and parcels regularly and needs no more clothes as he gets plenty.

The man standing, second from the right is Gunner Charles Deakin (23), son of Sergeant and Mrs. C. N. Deakin, Wood Street, Mexborough. Gunner Deakin was called up 1939 and was taken prisoner at Dunkirk.
