Will Be Taking Her Daughter With Her

Flying to Holland at the end of August, Mrs. Elsie Cutts, a 37 year old widow  and her 12 years old daughter, Pauline, will visit the grave of her husband on a Royal British Legion pilgramage.

Mrs. Cutts of 134, Wath Road Mexborough, and her daughter, will fly from London Airport on August 30th and will return by air on September 3rd. In her five days visit she hopes to meet the Dutch people who look after her husband’s grave. He was buried in a British cemetery at Mierlow, near Eindhoven. Her husband Jesse Cutts was a Lance Bombardier serving as a despatch rider in the Royal Artillery with the 15th Scottish Division when he was killed in action at best, in Holland shortly after the second Arnhem retreat In 1944. He was 32. He was formerly a well known sportsman in Mexborough playing football for several local teams. He worked as a machine operator at Dale Brown’s Glassworks, Swinton and as an assistant erector for Baker and Bessemer’s steelworks in Kilnhurst

This will be Mrs. Cutts’ second visit to her husband’s grave. Shortly after the war she went to Holland to see the grave. On her first trip she took her son, Peter now 16 years old. The trip to Holland is organised by the British Legion War Graves Pilgrimage. The cost of the daughters trip is paid for by the Legion And Mrs. Cutts is assisted by the Legion In paying her fare. They will be among a party of several other war widows from all over the country.
