Soldier – Buncall, William Henry – Killed in Action

December 1917

Mexborough and Swinton Times December 8, 1917

Private William Henry Buncall
Leicester Regiment

Private Buncall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Buncall, of Lower Dolcliffe road, Mexborough, has been killed in action in France.

The news was received last week by his wife, who lives in Cheshire. According to a letter from a chaplain, Pte. Buncall was in his billet on Nov. 22, when a shell struck it and killed him.

The date of his death was the birthday of his brother. Pte. Joseph Buncall (York and Lancaster) who is also serving in Prance.

Pte. W. H. Buncall leaves a widow and three children. His parents, who are well-known Salvationists. received on the day of their son’s death a letter written by him six days’ earlier; a letter whose contents are a source of great consolation to them in their present trouble.
