Prisoner Of War

News that their son, Gunner Douglas Brammer (24), is a prisoner of war, has been received by Mr. and Mrs. J. Brammer, 6, Melton Street, Mex- borough.

Gunner Brammer, who is the third son, had been missing since June 6th in the Middle East. Word that he was a prisoner was received from the War Office a fortnight ago, together with the request that if any further news was received concerning his whereabouts, the War Office should be informed.

Last Wednesday, Mr. Chilton, of the Doncaster Road, Post Office, heard on the Vatican Radio the following message from Douglas: ” Am quite well. Don’t worry. Writing soon. Love. Doug,” and informed Mr. and Mrs. Brammer the next morning.

A postcard from the “Catholic Times” in London was received on Tuesday confirming this broadcast message and also a letter from a London woman giving the same news.

Gunner Brammer was a member of Mexborough Parish Church choir and the Boy Scouts. Soon after he joined up he was drafted to Egypt and has not been home for over seven years. Another son, Pte. John Brammer, is serving in the Middle East.
