Soldier – Blyth P.– Died of Wounds

October 1917

Mexborough and Swinton Times October 13, 1917

Private P Blythe
York and Lancaster

Private Blythe of 3 Kirby St, Mexborough has died of wounds received on September 27.

He was a married man with five children and enlisted in September 1914. He went to France in September 1915 and was wounded in November 1916.

His widow has received a very sympathetic message from Sgt Hallam of her husband’s company, in which he tells her that her husband died a hero, and that;

“Not a better soldier stepped on the shores of France. He will be greatly missed as time goes on, and you may rest assured you have the heartfelt sympathy of scores of his comrades over here in the great and sad bereavement which has befallen you so suddenly.”
