Private E.H. Bennett
(York & Lancs)
Private EH Bennett, of Argyle Street, is making excellent progress in hospital in Warrington.
It appears that he took part in one of the earliest attacks at the opening of the offensive on July 1. He was hit in the leg, but hastily bandaging the wound he ran on and almost reached his comrades when he was hit a second time in the leg and fell.
He crawled into a shell hole, where he remained for 10 hours, and then he attempted to make his way back to the lines. In doing so he was hit a third time in the leg and received a piece of shrapnel in the back.
Ultimately he was found by an officer and taken to the dressing station. From that point he was quickly conveyed to England.
