Pte. Roy Beeson (20) son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Beeson of 49, Morton Road, Mexborough, was formerly an apprenticed jockey at the Manton Stables.

He has been in the Forces for about two years, and is now in India with the Northamptonshire regiment.

He went to Manton immediately after leaving Adwick Road School, Mexborough, at the age of 14, and had been there only two years when he began riding.
