Soldier – Barwick G. – From Gibraltar

May 1944

South Yorkshire Times, May 13th, 1944

Pte. G. Barwick has sent this picture from Gibraltar.

He writes: I have been in Gib. for twelve months and recently met these Mexborough district lads, so we thought it a good idea to have this group taken. I have been in the Army nearly four years, but luckily spent the first three in England and Wales.  I have been cooking ever since I joined up.  I worked for Mexboro’ U.D.C. before the war.

The names of the other four are: (standing) Pte. Wharin, A. B. Meese, of Dolcliffe Road, Mexborough and (sitting) A. B. Kay, myself, and A. B. Hirst of Church Street, Mexboro’.
