44, Main Street, Mexborough was killed in action on July 8.

He was 21 and single, and before enlistment in September 1914, worked at Denaby Main. He had been in France two years.

His mother has received a letter from his platoon officer stating:

“Your son was in my platoon he was a fine and promising lad, and was well liked and popular among his comrades.”
