Pte. Chas. Leasley (Northumberland Fus.),
Private Leasley, 40 Hope street, Mexboro’, has been severely wounded in the leg and slightly wounded in the forehead, and is now in Middlesex War Hospital, Clacton-on-Sea. He was hit on the 16th of April, early in the morning, after having delivered a message at headquarters.
In a letter home he says: “I never expected to get there with the message, as it was raining shells and bullets. I was not so fortunate on my return. We got in a hedge-bottom to have a bit of bread and jam, with shells hopping all round us.
“At last one dropped on the road against us. I got hit in the right leg and a bit in the forehead. The leg is broken and the wound is pretty bad, but don’t worry; it isn’t troubling me.”
Pte. Leasley has been serving since Jan. 1915, and was formerly a glass-bottle blower.
