Sheffield Amateur Show.
Breezy Hitting.
The amateur tournament, organised by the Sheffield and District Sportsmen’s Committee on behalf of the National Institute for the Blind, did not draw a big crowd to the Drill Hall, Edmund Road, Sheffield last evening. But the boxing was spirited and often clever.
The open light-weight competition secured five competitors, hut, nevertheless, the boxing was good and exciting.
In the first heat, W. Breeze, of Mexborough, and J. Dunn, of Bridlington, had a grim tussle until the second round, when Breeze caught Dunn with a right which sent the latter through the ropes to fall headlong on to the floor beneath.
Before the Bridlington boxer could resume he had been counted out.
In the first semi-final, M. Denton, of Guiseley, beat W. Stacey, of Barnsley, the latter retiring in the second round after he had received much punishment.
Breeze had another easy victory in the semi-final, in which he knocked out H. Downs, of Sheffield, with a short right to the point in the first round.
A similar punch, landed on Denton in the first round, won the final for the Mexborough man.
