Serious Accident at Mexborough

We regret to record that Mr Varah Lockwood, a much esteemed Mexborough resident, met with an unfortunate accident on Monday. It was his intention to ride to Harlington with a horse and trap, but he had not gone far when the horse became restive at the creaking created by Mr J.W.Ainly, the postmaster, who was saddle riding. Mr Lockwood jumped out of his trap to go to his horses head, but slipped in doing so, and conveyance went over the lower part of his body.

Mr Lockwood was assisted home, and Doctor Twigg was called in. Mr Lockwood had suffered from abdominal crushing, but is maintaining his condition under the doctor’s treatment.

On enquiry last night we are pleased to hear that he is progressing very favourably.
