Survivors.

Two Mexborough sailors are survivors from the “Prince of Wales” and “Repulse,” which were sunk off Malaya.

Mr. and Mrs. F. Stokes. 26, Frederick Street, received a telegram last week to say that their son, Gunner Frederick Hodgson, was safe. Gunner Hodgson Joined the Navy a year ago, before which he was employed at Manvers Main Colliery.

The other survivor, A.B. Frank Boyes, second son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E, Boyes, 14, Pym Road is an old boy of Mexborough Secondary School. Before joining up in April last year he had worked at Messrs. Montague Burton’s, Mexborough. He is 23 and was in the Mexborough Scouts for over 16 years.

A telegram has been received by Mrs. E. Carr of 29, Chaucer Road. Mexborough, informing her that her son, Able Seaman Jack Carr, is a survivor from H.M.S. Prince of Wales, in which he had been serving since the ship was first commissioned. He was aboard during the action with the “Bismarck,” and also when Mr. Churchill met President Roosevelt. Jack, who was a pupil of the National School, worked at Manvers Main before joining the Navy four years ago. Before joining the “Prince of Wales” he was in the actions at Narvik.
