Mexboro’ Man In Copenhagen.
Stoker Wm. Wallis of Harlingtlon Lane Mexborough, writing home from H.M.S Wolfhound says:
“I am anchored in Copenhagen at present and we are anchored close to the daily show, so that we have a very good view of the shipping and the people.
This morning a large transport full of British prisoners newly released from Germany passed us.
It did our hearts good to hear the way the poor fellows cheered as they passed.
The band played quote Rule Britannia” at the time, and the poor chaps waved and the nurses also.
We shall not stay here long. We are going to ——— I think, but I don’t know for certain. This is a lovely place, there isn’t a smokestack be seen anywhere. Please tell the “Mexborough Times” that this torpedo boat destroyer, the wolfhound, in which I am serving was one of the ships which brought the German Fleet home, and that they came in like a lot of sheep, helping the mine sweepers in their duties
