Rescue Award

Ronald Hague (13), 16, John Street, Mexborough, has  been awarded the Parchment of the Royal Humane Society to mark his rescue of Roy Travers (4), 12, Glasshouse Lane, who fell into the canal at Mexborough on June 14th.

Ronald was playing cricket when he learned that Roy had fallen into the canal. He threw off his jacket, trousers and boots, dived in, and brought the child in safety to the bank. This brave act received the commendation of Mexborough Urban Council, and at a subsequent meeting they decided to draw the attention of the Royal Humane Society to the rescue.
