Presentation to Secretary of Railway Union

Mr. Edward H. Buckley, secretary of the No. 1 (Mexborough) branch of the National Union of Railwaymen, retires this week from the service of the London & North Eastern Railway and from his official position in the trade union, having taken over the licence of a, little hostelry at Hutton-le-Hole.

He has been compelled by the state of his health to give up railway work. He came to Mexborough in 1911, and became secretary of the No. 1 branch, of the N.U.R. in 1919. During his stay in the town he has done very good service not only in his own trade union but for the Labour movement generally, and for other social organisations, including the Old Folk’s Treat Committee.

Next Sunday evening Mr. John Westwood, chairman of the Mexborough No. 1 branch, is to present to Mr. Buckley on behalf of the branch a gold watch in recognition of his services, and to Mrs. Buckley a gold wristlet watch. The ceremony takes place in the interval of a concert to be held in the Picture House, Bank Street.
