Plucky Rescue.
Paul White, the 10-year-old son of Mr. J. H. White, of 60, Bank Street, Chairman of Mexborough Urban Council, while walking along the canal bank on Sunday evening with a friend, John Sidebottom (11), noticed a brown whippet dog in the water and apparently in danger of drowning. Paul stripped off his shirt and was about to dive in when the dog drifted closer to the bank and with difficulty they were able to reach it.
They carried the dog to the police station, where it was revived.
Paul attends the National School and is a member of the Parish Church Troop of Boy Scouts; he is not a good swimmer, though Mr. White tells us that he has no fear of the water.
