The Plant Hotel Motor Tour to the South
When her father died, Mrs E law, of 44, Adwick Road Mexborough, received two old photographs, taken in 1900 or thereabouts – the year of the Plant Hotel motor tour from Mexborough to the South of England.
Mrs Law’s father, Mr Jack crooks, was a waiter at the Roman Hotel, which was owned at that time by Mr Frank law, pictured second from the left in the lower picture.
The other picture, taken outside the Plant Hotel, shows several Mexborough publicans and their friends went on tour. Sitting just behind the driver in the coach is Mr Les Jones present licensee of the Albion Inn, Mexborough.
Also in the picture Mr Jake Rawson (six from the left on the front row), who owned a butchery business, which is now owned by his son, Mr E Rawson, in Mexborough.
The lower picture shows the passengers outside a fire station somewhere in Kent. Although she was only a child at the time Mrs Law, who kindly loaned his photographs to the “South Yorkshire Time” says she could remember her father bringing her a locket and chain from London for her birthday.
