Pilfered From Pit.
Sidney Spring (24), shunter, Mexborough, pleaded guilty at Doncaster on Tuesday, to stealing part of a pit prop and a quantity of cement, valued at 10d (5p) from Manvers Main
Colliery. Mr. C. R. Marshall said that at 6.30 on the morning of January 12th, P.S. Wrigglesworth saw defendant with bulky pockets in Mexborough. Spring was unable to give an explanation and on being searched the property ‘was discovered.
Defendant admitted having taken it from the Colliery and said the cement was to repair his copper which was smoking.
He was bound over for 6 months and ordered to pay 10s. towards the costs. He asked for time to pay, saying that he had no money as he had just been married.
