Neglected Baby of 12 Months

A young married couple, formerly of Mexborough, Leslie and Doris Pearson, were at Doncaster West Hiding Court yesterday, sent to prison for three months for neglecting their 12-monthsold baby.

The previous day the wife had summoned her husband for neglecting the child, but it transpired that neither could inform the Bench as to the exact whereabouts of the baby. The woman then said she left her husband eight weeks ago, leaving the child with him. When she wrote asking him to send her return fare to Scarborough where they had been living, he replied that he did not want her.

The man said they quarrelled and he wrote asking his mother to take the baby. She visited Scarborough and look it home to Mexborough where he expected it still was. He went to Brighton to find work.

The case was adjourned and yesterday both parents were summoned, and Pearson’s mother told the court that she had the child.
