Our Chairman’s Diamond Jubilee
A most recent photograph of Hr. W. P. Turner, taken on May 19th when he opened the new ground of the Conisbrough Cricket Club.
This week we have pleasure in extending cordial birthday greeting to our Chairman, Mr. W. Turner, who on Wednesday celebrated his 75th birthday.
Joining the Paper (founded by his father the late Mr. Walter Turner in 1891, Mr. Turner has completed a remarkable record of continuous service with the quote South Yorkshire Times.” and is still actively associated with the publishing and printing business in the development of which he has played such a conspicuous part.
A former cricketer and footballer of ability and repute. Mr. Turner is member of the Yorkshire Cricket Committee, maintaining his strong sporting interest through this medium. He has also been a diligent worker for and a supporter of hospital and charitable causes. As President of the Montagu Hospital, Mexborough, for several years prior to the hospital merging into the National Health Scheme, he gave distinguished service to an institution which has always stood high in the mining communites it has largely served.
We feel sure that the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Turner will join the Directors, staff and employees of the “South Yorkshire Times” Printing Co Ltd in offering good wishes to them on this special occasion. Participated in 67 four years history of the newspaper is an outstanding record we are proud of our Chairman and delighted that he still going strong.
