This old cottage, a familiar feature of the landscape to those who walk along Cadeby Lane and look out across the valley, has for many years been a ruin and has now been enlarged and reconditioned and made comfortable and habitable. It is occupied by a Mexborough family.

The Dearne is now a considerable distance away, but at one time it passed close by and there is evidence that the cottage was used as a boat house. The repairs include an embankment to protect the cottage against flood.
