Objection To Referee.
Principal in Chief Event at Denaby Refuses to Box.
Bert Priestley (Mexborough) and Ernie Bicknell (Doncaster) entered the ring at the Welfare Baths. Denaby Main, on Saturday, to compete for the Yorkshire light-weight title. Then, when everything was in order for the referee make announcement. Priestley objected to that official, Mr. Ted Gardner. The crowd of three hundred continually shouted for Mr. Gardner to take charge of the contest. The referee produced his Board of Control certificate and allowed Priestley five minutes to make his mind. This he failed do, and, therefore, the contest did not take place.
In the minor bouts Young Farrell (Denaby) beat Jack Bicknell (Edlington) on points over six rounds; Davies (Denaby) drew with Young Moseley (Edlington) over six rounds; Jack Gough (Denaby) beat Tubby Thompson (Mexborough) ever six rounds.
In the final of the welter weight competition J. O’Neil (Conisborough) had a walk over.
