Obituary – Mr. A. E. Walker
The funeral took place at Mexborough yesterday of Mr. Albert Emerson Walker (67), who collapsed and died while watching a football match on Saturday in Blackpool where he was spending a week’s holiday. He was to have returned to Mexborough on Monday.
Mr. Walker was well known in Mexborough, as secretary of Mexborough’s Albion R.A.O.B. lodge. He lived at 3, Windhill Terrace, Mexborough. In his younger days, he and his wife, who died eight months ago, were professional actors, and toured the country as a variety act, he a comedian she a pianist. After Mrs. Walker died, Mr. and Mrs. James Watt, firm friends of Mr. Walker for a number of years, went to live with him.
Mrs. Watt said on Monday that she was surprised to learn that he had died at a football match as she had never known him go to one before. Mr. Walker who suffered from asthma until his death, was a bricklayer in Mexborough after he retired from the stage. The internment took place at Mexborough Cemetery.
