Obituary – Mary Ann Horsley

The death occurred on Sunday of the oldest resident of Adwick-on-Dearne, Mrs. Mary Ann Horsley, who lived with her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Brown, of the Manvers Arms, Adwick.
Mrs. Horsley, who would have been 82 at Christmas, was born at Doncaster. She married at the age of 19, coming to Adwick when she was 22. She again married 53 years ago, her second husband being Mr. Horsley, a native of Mexborough, who survives her. They had lived at the Manvers Arms together for 53 years, and celebrated their Golden Wedding in October, 1941.
Mr. and Mrs. Horsley were married at Mexborough Parish Church on October 12th 1881, and were the second couple to be married there after the restoration of the church.
Mr. Horsley’s parents were former licensees of the Sportsman Inn, Mexborough, and they were married from there. In addition to the widower, Mrs. Horsley leaves a son and two daughters. She was a regular attender at Adwick Church in her younger days, and was also a member of the Women’s Institute.
Her husband is now the oldest Adwick resident. He is 80. The funeral took place at Adwick. Funeral arrangements were in the hands of J. Millwood and Son, 105, Main Street, and 24, Market Street, Mexborough. Tel: 2138
