“No” to Mexbro’ factory

Hopes for a new factory at ” Mexborough — which would have offered employment to a considerable number of women workers — have fallen through, it was reported to a special meeting of Mex-borough Urban Council on Friday.

The Council have been negotiating with Alexandre’s the tailors for nearly two years for a new factory in the town, but they have now heard that the firm’s proposals have been dropped.

Writing to the Council, the Company’s Managing Director, Mr. Bernard Lyons, said uncertainty of labour availability and the financial advantage of expansion in a Development Area were among the Company’s reasons for their decision.

Alexandre’s already have one factory in Mexborough. The proposed second one, which would have been situated at Whitelea Grove, would have employed a further 300 women.
