New Union Organiser

Conisbrough Man’s Appointment

After attending an examination in Leeds before members of the General Executive Committee of the Transport and General Workers’ Union, Mr. J. Wright, 21, Warren Road, Mexborough, has been appointed the Union’s building trades organiser for Region No. 9, Sheffield District. The area embraces nearly the whole of South Yorkshire.

Candidates for the post were present from various parts of the country.

Mr. Wright has been secretary of Conisbrough branch of the Union for the past four years, during which period the membership has been doubled, mainly through the acquisition of members at the G.E.C. works at Swinton, where he has been employed on the staff for the past five years.

The union’s relations with G.E.C. are very good.

Mr. Wright takes up his new duties on Monday and his appointment will necessitate the appointment of a new branch secretary at the year end.

For 14 years Mr. Wright was employed by Conisbrough Urban Council and before that was 14 years with Denaby and Cadeby Main Collieries. He has had wide electoral experience and has fought a seat on Conisbrough Council.
