New Principal Of Schofield Technical Institute
Mr. M. Clark Appointed
Mr. Mathew Clark, of 48, Adwick Road, Mexborough, for the past 17 years in charge of the Southern area of Mining Education under the West Riding County Council, has been appointed Principal of the Mexborough Schofield Technical Institute, which, it is expected will be formally opened this autumn.
From the time he started work in the mine as a boy, to taking up the positions of Manager-and Under-Manager:, Mr Clark has had practical experience of almost every branch of mining and engineering work.
His teaching experience extends over a period of about 25 years (8 as part time and 17 as full time teacher). Mr. Clark is a Member pf the Institute of Mining Engineers, and his other qualification are: Diploma Mining Engineerin-r- 1st Class Colliery manager; Bachelor of Engineering; 1st. class (Civil and Electrical ; 1st. class (London) Mines Surveyor; 1st. class Mining Board of Education; 1st. class Geology—Roval Technical College, Glasgow: 1st. Prize winner in every year at the Mining-, College v. Winner of 1st prize in Geology at the Glasgow College awarded by the Glasgow Geological Society.
Work At Mexborough
While at Mexborough he has inaugurated the Mining Society, run in connection with the Mining Departments at the Mexborough and Wombwell Technical Institutes. Mr. Clark has been able to develop a pleasant and, mutually advantageous connection between the school and industries, in the district. . He himself has been able to carry cut important work in connection. with support of surface work, water works, etc., with the Mexborough Urban Council and the local colliery companies.
Mr. Clark, who graduated as an electrical and . civil engineer at Sheffield University, for some time’ had charge of the Mining Dept., at the Doncaster Technical College under the West Riding Authority. For the past 12 years lie has been an – examiner for colliery deputies under the West Riding at various centres.
He is the Yorkshire representative. on the Council of the National Association of Full-Time Mining Teachers and Organisers.
He has for many years acted on several standing subcommittees in connection with both mining and Engineering has also been a member of the Moderating Subcommittee of the Examinations Board
