A reception given by Mr. A. Lewis, the newly-appointed District Manager to the Doncaster Officer of the Royal Liver Friendly Society, to former and present members of his staff and their wives was held at the Danum Hotel, Doncaster last Thursday and a large gathering heard Mr. I. R. Dernley give a brief report on the White Paper as it affected their business.

Optimism was his keynote and he mentioned the splendid figures achieved in the last few years in this area, in which Mexborough had done its share.  He told the Doncaster staff Mr. Lewis was coming to them with a fine record which he hoped, with their co-operation, to continue.

Other speakers were Mr. W. Page, late District Manager at Doncaster; Mr. J. Allott, District Manager at Barnsley; Mr. E. Needham, District Manager at South Kirkby and late agent at Mexborough; Mr. L. Fletcher and Mr. J. Scholey of Mexborough; Mr. H. Harrison and Miss Edgson of Doncaster.  Mr. J. Holliday entertained with pianoforte solos and accompanied a young soloist.  The last toast was to “Our Hosts,” and in reply Mr. A. Lewis thanked them all for attending.
