New Manager of the National Provincial Bank
Mr. R. Dayson.
Mr. Dayson, who commenced duty at Mexborough this week, entered the banking service at Mexborough just thirty years ago.
Mr. Dayson is 47 years of age and was born at Goole. The elder son of the late Mr. Robert Day son a shipbroker. He was educated at the Royal Masonic School at Bushey Park and joined the staff of the former York City and County (afterwards absorbed by the Midland Bank) at Mexborough in 1908 under the late H. Airey. He spent the first three years of his banking career there and then transferred to the National Provincial Bank, serving a year at the district head office, George Street, Sheffield. From there he moved to Rotherham and from Rotherham to the charge of a sub-branch at Maltby where he was, stationed when the War came and carried him off ultimately to Palestine, where he served with the motor transport.
On demobilisation he returned to Rotherham, was promoted cashier, and in 1920 was appointed manager of a small new branch at Darnall, a very modest venture which he has developed into a very important one. His promotion to Mexborough, one of the largest branches in South Yorkshire, represents well-deserved promotion and very proper recognition of able and enterprising service.
Keen Churchman.
Mr. Dayson should be a considerable acquisition to the social and business life of the town and district for he comes with an excellent record of service of that kind. He is a keen Churchman, and it is interesting to recall that during his previous stay in Mexborough he was a member of the choir of the Parish Church. Both he and his wife are excellent musicians. Since he went to Darnall, Mr. Dayson has taken a great interest in the work of the Handsworth Parish Church, and is at present Rector’s Warden, as well as secretary to the Ruridecanal Conference.
