New Head at Schofield Street School
A native of Mexborough, a schoolboy in Mexborough, a teacher in Mexborough, and now a headmaster in Mexborough.
That is the record of Mr. Frank Williams, who has this week been appointed headmaster of the Schofield Street School in succession to Mr. J. T. Lewis, who is due to retire at the end of October.
As a boy Mr. Williams attended the Adwick Road School, later going 10 the Secondary School. After a successful school career he proceeded to St. Paul’s College, Cheltenham, and for a time was at the. Adwick Road School as a student teacher. On leaving college, he took up his first teaching appointment at the Station Road School, Conisborough, and in 1930 he moved to the Adwick Road School, where he stayed until early this year. He was also a member or the staff of the Adwick Road Evening School. In addition to his educational duties, Mr. Williams participated in many other activities. He was a churchwarden and Sunday School Superintendent at the Parish Church, secretary of the Mexborough Children’s Convalescent Home and Fresh Air Fund, and secretary of the Mex-borough and District Schools Athletic Association.
