New Curate Relation of W G Grace
The announcement has been made this week that when the Rev. E. H. P Rawlins comes to Mexborough at the end of this month he will bring with him his curate from St. Paul’s Church, Norton Lees, Sheffield, to succeed the Rev. C. B. Reshaw. who is moving to Cantley, near Doncaster, as Priest-in-Charge of St. George’s Church.
The new curate is the Rev. Geoffrey Bernard, son of the late Dr. Claude Bernard, Bristol, grandson of the famous Dr. E. M. Grace, and great nephew of the still more famous Dr. W. G. Grace, the cricketer. Educated at Clifton College, Mr. Bernard graduated as a Bachelor of Arts at Bristol University. He received his theological training at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, and was ordained at Sheffield Cathedral by the Bishop of Sheffield in 1935. Since then he has been curate at St. Paul’s, Norton Lees. He takes up his duties at St. George’s Church on the first Sunday in October, and will be licensed on September 23th, when the Rev. Rawlins is instituted and inducted. Mr. Bernard is married but has no children.
