New Councillor – Claude Gordon Bullock
Mr. Claude Gordon Bullock, licensee of the Red Lion Hotel, Bank Street, is, another who enters the Council at the first time of asking.
He is thus following in the footsteps of his father, who was for many years a prominent public man and a member of the old School Board. Mr. Bullock was born within a few yards of the Council Chamber, over a shop in Montagu Square. It was then kept by Mr. Bullock’s father as a grocery business.
On leaving school Mr. Bullock was for 21 years in the pawnbroking trade.. He started as an apprentice and finished as Manager. When the shop closed in 1921 Mr. Bullock became connected with a flour and corn business at Bolton-on-Dearne. He took over the licence of the Red Lion Hotel six years ago and has held it ever since.
Mr. Bullock is one of the foundation managers of the National School, succeeding on the Board his father, who was for many years churchwarden at the Parish Church. He served throughout the Great War with the Royal Garrison Artillery. He is a member of the Athletic Club and the Chamber of Trade, and formerly held an official position in the old Rifle Club.
