Mr. R. Redpath Appointed
Mr. R. Redpath who, as reported in a recent issue, has been appointed Station Master of Mexborough (in charge of Mexborough Yard and Swinton), comes from Knebworth where he has been District Inspector.
He commenced with the old North Eastern Railway at Castleford and was subsequently transferred to numerous stations in the Leeds and York districts, including duties as relief clerk (home station, Pontefract) which embraced stations as far as Bolton-on-Dearne and extended to Wensleydale and Nidderdale. He was later transferred to the District Goods Manager’s Office in Leeds and appointed from there to the Operating Department. Since 1933 he has been relief station master, Lincoln area, station master at Stillington, followed by a similar appointment to Coldstream. From the latter station he moved to Hull as relief station master and took duty at numerous places in the East Riding of Yorkshire. In 1940 he was promoted to the position of District Signalling and traffic Inspector Kings Cross areas (home station Hitchin).
He has worked at stations between the extreme ends of the North Eastern and Southern areas of the L. N. E. Railway having moved from the banks of the Tweed to Hertfordshire, and is now returning to the West Riding of Yorkshire as station master at Mexborough, succeeding Mr. Mann, who has gone to Stowmarket.
