Mexborough Montagu Hospital.
Possibility of Maternity Wards Being Provided.
At the quarterly meeting of the Mexborough Montagu Hospital, on Saturday, Mr. W. A Lewis presiding, Mr. F. Harrop, chairman of the Finance Committee, referred to the financial difficulties arising from the industrial depression, and reported that the income for the quarter ended December 51st last was £2,834 I8s. 3d., compared with £3,553 9s. 3d. for the corresponding period of the previous year.
The expenditure was £2,905 15s. Id., against £2,703 14s. 5d. Expenditure for the last quarter exceeded receipts by £70 16s.10d.
Mr. R. Clerk, presenting the report of the House Committee, said that in the past year 1,401 in-patients and 954 out-patients had been treated. The total number of treatment was 28.349.
The Chairman spoke of the suggested scheme for converting two wards of the extensions to the hospital, not at present in commission owing to lack of funds, into a maternity hospital. There was great need for such a home, and the question had been taken up with the urban councils of the hospital’s area, and the County Council. Encouraging responses had been received, and it was believed that Dr. Lawrence, a member of the County Council who had inspected the wards, had made favourable report. The hospital, he said, was giving more efficient and valuable service to its area than ever before in its history.
