“Miss Waist” Wins R.A.F.A.Contest

As a than from the usual beauty competition, Mexborough R.A.F.A.organise a “Miss Waist” competition at the Empress Ballroom on Friday to find the lady with the slimmest waist.

The judge, Mr L Ricketts of Wath, chose Yvonne Owen (17) of 53, Clayfield Rd, Mexborough, who had a waist measurement of 23 inches.

She received a large box of chocolates from the R.A.F.A. Wings Queen, Miss Violet Sugden.

Miss Own is employed by the N.C.B. at Denaby, and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. Owen.

Miss Sugden, of Glasshouse Lane, Kilnhurst, also congratulated the runner-up, Miss Joan Tinsley, of Kilnhurst.

Miss Sugden presented prizes to spot dance winners and winners of rock ‘n roll competitions. M.C. was Mr. W. Ricketts.

The dance was in aid of the R.A.F.A. Headquarters building Fund. The Association have already realised £300 for this headquarters and a further £500 is needed.
