Midwife with Long Service

October 1928

Mexborough and Swinton Times October 26 1928

Nurse Agnes Gregory Limer, of 40, Doncaster Road, Mexborough, is not the oldest certified midwife practising in the district, but she has probably the longest record of service.

She is 78 years old, and has been practising in this district and at Buxton for

47 years. Nurse Limer is a native of Taddington, Buxton, and commenced as a midwife at the age of 31. At that time midwives had not to be certified and it was not until April 28th, 1924, that Nurse Limer became certified. During her work in the Buxton district she way often called to a case over five miles away. The journey bad to be made on a donkey’s back, and during winter it was common for her to go to cases through deep  snow.

After 20 years at Buxton Nurse Limer came to Mexborough to live with her children, and her “practice” includes Mexborough, Swinton, Denaby, Conisborough,

‘Nurse Limier ham never ” lost” a patient in all these 47 years,
