Hull City Res 1 Wombwell 0
In entertaining Wombwell at Anlaby Road, Hull, the City Reserves, who won by 1-0, fielded several new recruits, mostly local players. Ward kept a sound goal. E. and .J. Murden combined well on the Wombwell left-wing. Croft scored the only goal of the match fur Hull in the second half.
Mexborough’s Better Finishing.
York City Res 1 Mexborough 2
Mexborough displayed just that, extra bit of finish which was necessary for them to beat York City Reserves by 2-1 at Fulfordgate. The greasy ball was difficult to control, and was responsible for many mistakes on both sides.
Two lapses on the part of the home defence cost them two goals. York have their goalkeeper, Thornton, to thank for the low score against them.
Bungay scored twice for Mexborough, and Baines netted for the home team. Davies was a clever forward, and Barber and Briggs smart on the wings. Park and Spargo served the Rovers well.
