Mexborough and Swinton Times April 9, 1937
Mexborough’s new Labour councillor, Mr George Harrison Hanson, 12 Byron Rd, came to the town as a boy; he is now employed as a miner at the Denaby Main Colliery.
Mr Hanson has always been keenly interested in trade union work and he is the secretary of the Barnburgh branch of the Transport and Gen Workers Union. He is vice chairman of the local Labour Party and has recently been appointed secretary of the Mexborough boots for Bairns fund.
This will be Mr Hanson’s first term on the Council, and his previous experience in public work will stand him in good stead in his duties as a councillor.
