Mexborough’s “Iron Curtain”

A further protest at the direct labour schemes of Mexborough Urban Council was made at a meeting in Mexborough of the Dearne Valley branch of the National Federation of Building Trades operatives. The branch are trying to meet the Council to discuss the question, and have received a letter saying that the matter is being deferred for consideration.

Mr. T. Flint, chairman, said: “I would like to suggest that a letter is sent to the Council saying that Russia has an Iron Curtain round them, and we would like the Council to take theirs from the direct labour question.”

It was decided to send a letter of protest to Mexborough Labour Party over the matter.
