Mexborough Visitors to the Electric Works.

The Mexborough Urban District Council decided last night to refer to a special meeting the question of bus termini. Mr. Tabor said that traffic was getting abnormal, and suggested that the buses should be stopped from going down West Street, and that stands should be placed at each end of the town.

A letter was received from the Mexborough Trades Council suggesting that the Council, either on their own or with Swinton, should provide motor ambulance. The matter was deferred.

It was stated that owing to people going down to the electric works and wandering all over the place, the Electric Light Committee had decided to stop charging accumulators for wireless sets there. Mr. Bramham asked if the Council would provide facilities in tho houses, and electrical engineer said “No.”

The Medical Officer (Ur. J. J. Huey) report on the Adwick Road Infants’ School —a wooden building seven years old—said found draughts, dampness, and the corridor was sometimes flooded.

Mr. Morley said that tile Wakefield authorities had refused an application for a new school. He suggested that the Council should ask parent’s to keep their children away until a new school was obtained.

Mr. Cliff said they could not get anything by threats. It was decided send the medical report the County Education Committee.

Mr. Wragg, referring to the statement made by the chairman of the Mexborough Tracies Council, that Mexborough’s electric light charges were high, quoted figures showing that the average price paid by all Mexborough consumers in the last financial year was 4 ¾ d per unit.
