“Years Best News”
Mexborough and Its Water Problem
Solution in Sight.

What Councillor Caddick described as “ the best  news have received this year,” was forthcoming at the meeting of the Mexborough Urban Council last night, when Councillor Harrison, chairman of the Water announced that the Ministry of was in agreement with the Council’s scheme, subject to certain small conditions.

The Ministry, he said, had also given sanction to the Council’s application for power to lay pipes from the Ludwell Springs to the existing waterworks of the Council, pending settlement of details of the scheme.

This means that Mexborough’s long-standing Problem is within short distance of solution. It is estimated that the Ludwell Springs, with the sources at present in use will give Mexborough an adequate supply of water, 24 hours daily.

At a later stage of the meeting, the Medical Officer (Dr. J. J. Huey) reported that a case of scarlet fever had been notified to a medical practitioner in the town when it had reached the peeling stage. Making inquiries, he (the Officer) found that the case in question had broken out on November 14th, and he suggested that the Council should take proceedings against the parents for failing to notify the Council.

Councillor Mrs. Singleton said she knew the family concerned and she was satisfied that there was a very good reason for the non-notification.

On her proposal, the matter was referred to the Health Committee.

Gift of Land Question.

Councillor T. Chambers, in accordance with notice of motion, proposed that the Council rescind the resolution passed on July 20th accepting the gift of land from Councillor R.Fowler.

Mr Chambers said they wanted information relating the conditions the sale of the land by Captain Montague, as he did not want the Council to spend more money on the land than it was worth to them as playing fields.

On the suggestion of the chairman (Councillor G.W.  Bramham). Councillor Chambers agreed to defer is motion for another month, as by that time the Council would have more information.
