Mexborough Town Secretary Resigns

22 May 1931

Mexborough & Swinton Times – Friday 22 May 1931

Mr. Harry Chambers, whose resignation from the Mexborough F.C. secretaryship for private reasons which do not affect his interest in the club, first became an active participant in Mexborough football affairs two years ago. Then, like a few others, he noted with regret the decline of public interest in the local Midland League club and the drop in its prestige, and felt it urgent that something should be done to restore both interest and prestige.

He became one of the guarantors who reorganised and financed the club, and while Mr. Tom Tompkins looked after the management of the team, he devoted himself to the club’s finances.

Last summer he took over the secretaryship and during the season just ended he had both sides of the work under his control. His careful management may be judged from the report presented at the annual meeting this week.

Mr. Chambers has been keenly interested in the club, of course, for many years and will give practically as much time and enthusiasm to its affairs next season as before. He is particularly proud of the fellows who have carried the club’s colours for the last two years and enhanced the club’s reputation by their behaviour on and off the field.

Mr. Chambers wound up his year of office by entertaining the team to dinner.
